REVIEW

A Walk in the Park for John

Rolfs Lake Match Winner

Match Winner John Lees - Oxford Match Group

John Lees (Oxford MG) Fishing a standard 7m out and back towards peg 33 John only had on or two bites which prompted a switch to fishing tight against the bank some 6-7m from his own platform. The switch worked well, however, after a few quick fish the peg slowed and a second change to fishing just 2m from his own platform against the bank produced a consistent run of good carp for a match winning 256-08 - Some 146lb clear of the runner up. John alternated both Pellet and Paste baits but confessed the switch to the closer line was the key to his big weight.

Mike Stimson . (Oakfield's) Fishing a short 5m out on the ledge with pellet baits, Mike took a respectable 110lb for runners up spot. Like Lee, Mike attempted to fish short but a run of foul hooked fish and long fishless spells prompted a return to the 5m line. With the lake fishing hard elsewhere, the constant sport on this line seemed a banker for the eventual framing weight.

Dave Wightman (Simons 2000) At the off Dave took a run of 4 fish but the peg soon came to a grinding halt. Experimenting with alternative hook baits produced the odd fish but a steady run of bites proved harder to come by. An eventual switch to luncheon meat produced the steady return Dave was looking for. Consequently, a 94lb return followed for a well deserved 3rd place, just pushing the Coney Tackle backed angler Tony Page into 3rd with his 92lb bag.

Elsewhere - A cooling wind provided an autumn chill around the lake and overall bites were much harder to come by this weekend. Baits such as Pellet, Paste, Corn, Meat and Worms all tempting fish (in that sort of pecking order too!). With a much cooler outlook for next weekend the angler that refines his rigs and gets a better presentation should do well.

In the Sunday Club Match 160lb won the day with most anglers enjoying plenty of bites despite a hard frost
