| Gary
Thorpe (Ton up Baits) won
the 3rd match on a trot with an average over 333lb. Prior to the
match he had commented to Rolf that he'd not do much from Peg 10,
but Rolf knew otherwise. A little over 5hrs later Gary hauled 318lb
of fin perfect carp to the scales. Gary fished at 7m with large
lumps of paste on the hook. Again 4mm Ton Up Pellet was the loose
feed and the paste Gary used is made from the Ton Up Pellets. This
has been one of the worst kept secrets around and now nearly all
the big weights coming out have been on Ton Up Paste over the 4mm
Ton Up Pellets. (That's it I'm giving in work to become a Ton Up
Baits Rep!)
Elsewhere
Kevin Arathoon, Cokeheads, returned a similar bag of pristine
Carp from Peg 33. Kevin at one stage had too many fish in his Peg
and struggled to maintain any consistent rhythm. All the same a
bag just short of 300lb made for a great days fishing.
With
14 weights over the 100lb mark I must mention one 'TON' that stood
out from the rest. Mike Bowden (20 AC) had never caught a ton and
arrived at the lake on Saturday morning with one mission. Unfortunately,
he caughted 200lb and remained an angler without a 'Ton' - that
is until this afternoon when he returned with 116lb. Well done Mike.
I guess you and the rest of the 20 AC guys will be returning in
the near future?
"Ton Up Baits have
offered a Prize of £250 to any angler who
breaks the UK 5 hour Match Record from Rolfslake!"
Commercial
fisheries are due to go under the spot light in one of the popular
Angling Papers for overstocking fisheries later this week. Over
the last few years Rolfslake has demonstrated that good fish stocks
and stringent rules can ensure that no fish are harmed, indeed each
fish is given a 'Rolfs bath' prior to their return and no fish over
8lb are allowed in keepnet's at anytime. In total this year Rolf
has lost only 4 fish and these followed 2 heavy spawning periods.
Given
the great condition of Rolfs fish, I am sure the case for commercial
fisheries is further strenthened if not 'water tight.' Indeed other
commercial fisheries may do no worse than adopt some of the strict
rules applied at this Oxfordshire hotspot.
