REVIEW

Rolfslake Match Fishing Carp Winner

Winner: Dave Wightman (Simons 2000)

Good Weights in second weekend of Silver Fish Matches

Dave Hawkins - Runner Up with 23lb

Dave Wightman (Simons 2000) Peg 33 - 27lb 4oz

Dave Wightman (Simons 2000) won the second Saturday Silver Fish special at Rolfslake with a net-busting 27lb 4oz of prime Roach. Drawn on Peg 33, Dave fished at 5m to take the 2 stone bag of redfins on a small 'to-hand' waggler fished directly back towards Peg 8 on the opposite bank. So confident that he would take a great number of fish later in the match, Dave fished for a few Carp at the off! even though he knew they wouldn't count. However, he did make every silver fish count in his impressive return. Dave loose fed a few maggots, in a little and often approach, and seemed to keep the fish interested all day.

Dave Hawkins (Dorchester) also employed the little and often approach in his 23lb runners-up bag. A good day Roach fishing and how many waters will be boasting a 23lb bag of Roach that didn't win this weekend? With the rivers still carrying too much water, I can only think of a few. For the record Dave was fishing on Peg 27 and he consequently sandwiched the 3rd and 4th place anglers between himself and the winner; Gary Thorpe on Peg 29 3rd with 22lb 12oz and Paul Barnes 4th with 21lb 8oz from peg 32.

All four weights consisted mostly of Roach to 1lb!

Elsewhere. Plenty of bags in double figures ensured another good days sport for those in attendance. Loose feed seems to work better than the groundbait - or at least more consistent for the Roach. Heavy feeding with groundbait seems to attract too many Carp and the Roach get pushed out! Where are these carp when they count? Then the complaint is from bites from Silver fish! Can't win I guess?
