REVIEW

Rolfslake Match Fishing Carp Winner

Winner: Bob Johnson (Rolfslake)

Stan Roback - Winner of the Silver Fish Match

Bob Johnson (Rolfslake)

Despite the heavy hail storm at the start of the match, the Sunday Open Match at Rolfslake produced one of the years best sets of weights, and with the frame being spit between the 3 key areas of the complex - (Small/Shallow Lake, Car park and Motorway Bank)

Drawn on Corner Peg 4 in shallow lake, Bob Johnson (Rolfslake) took a number of big fish to bolster his 'weighers' (fish over 8lb) to a creditable 91lb. Fishing sweetcorn hook baits he also took a number of smaller samples to boost his total to a winning 138lb.

Colin Storey (TUB)

Also boosting his weight with a number of bonus doubles was Ton Up Baits backed Colin Storey on Peg 15. Colin kept his feeding to a minimum to chip away at a big weight. Although an increase in the feed rate produced a good run of fish in the 4th and 5th hours.

Elsewhere

Pete Coxhead (Rolfslake) One of the most frustrated anglers on the bank today was Rolfslake backed Pete Coxhead. Drawn on one of the lake top pegs, Pete landed 16 fish for 108lb - However, this was literally only half of the story. In the first hour Pete landed 5 of the 13 Carp he hooked and continued to foul & lightly hook shy or finicky fish for the remaining hours. In total Pete lost 13 fish at an estimated 80lb - more than enough to have walked the match. Dan Jones put in a steady performance from a peg that had benefited from Gary Thorpe's heavy feeding on Saturday - incidentally Gary took 100lb today in 2hrs after a slow start and claimed to have fed Hemp and Maggot to ignite his peg at the half way point.

Outlook - As the weather continues to warm Rolf fully expects the Carp to come back to the Pellet and move up in the water very quickly. Still some signs that the Carp don't seem to want too much bait over their heads - Doh, got it wrong again today myself as I fed too heavy after a poor start that result in one foul hook lump on the first put in! Will I ever learn? I doubt it. Although Colin Storey did try to ease the pain afterwards for me by hinting that I should beat myself up about it - I thought that's what us anglers do best?
