Ian Higgins (TVE) fished tight to the few Rushes to his right on Peg 7 to finnish just 8oz short of a belting 200lb return. Lake fished well on paper with only a few pegs struggling for fish. Pegs 32,31,30 for a change fished very hard with top weight here 90lb.
I fed too much on Peg 40 in the first 2 hours and on reflection I could have packed up then! Rolf did comment at one stage that I was responsible for the water level rising an Inch. Still, when your not getting bites and you need to be there's no point just sitting there and wondering what if later in the day! If I could have changed anything, I'd go back to the draw and pull out a different peg.
Lake fishing well with paste starting to produce some good weights.
Steve Liston
(Swindon)
317lb 8oz Peg 8
Previously drawn on Peg 8, Steve Liston didn't want to fish the normal line on the far bank as he found that he foul hooked too many fish. Alternatively Steve decided to fish a line to his left towards the bush and down the inside shelf. Feeding only via a Kinder Egg cup, Steve took his time in building up the peg and took a number of bonus fish which totaled 180lb of his net busting 317lb 8oz winning total.
Most of the speculation after the match was pertaining to what Steve was feeding in the cup - Ian HIggins on the next peg seemed to think it was a groundbait and Paste - but Steve was not giving too much away! What ever it was it worked well and the Swindon based angler pushed himself into the Rolfslake Hall of Fame with some ease.
John Bennett
(Swindon)
246lb 4oz Peg 37
Drawn in the shallow half of Rolfslake, John Bennett made full use of the blank pegs either side and combined this with the knowledge that the fish like to sit on top of the bar that runs between his peg and the opposite peg 4.
John was almost immediately into fish on his paste baits at 9m and caught for the full 5hrs. However at the end of the 2nd hour John found too many fish in the peg and stopped feeding in an attempt to reduce foul hooked fish. Overall, a good display of paste fishing and use of local knowledge. Just because a peg looks like all the other pegs........

Kev Holvey
Sun Inn Jonah's
Constant feed had a lot of Carp 'boiling' in the Peg but could convert the visual fish action into fish in the net as Carp got finicky up in the water. Although, Tony still returned a belting 112lb.

Trevor Price
Ton Up Baits
Switched to a shallow rig and turned his peg around late in the match to push himself into 5th place with a solid 160lb +!
