Colin Wedgbrow (Slapheads)
Len Drew - His groundbait approach landed him 240lb and plenty of coin.
Welsh International Andy Johnstone -152lb 8oz
Colin Wedgbrow

255lb 8oz Peg 7
Colin Wedgbrow topped an impressive return of weights with a net busting 255lb 08oz from Peg 7. Colin at first took a number of fish from the 6m paste line in the deepest part of his peg. However, with tails showing early in the margin peg, the west midlands matchman plundered the grasses and took an impressive double ton and match win.
Colin fished a hard banded pellet on the hook and had to feed a good amount of pellet to keep the fish coming back for more. On the next Peg (4), Bowshaw Bandit angler Len Drew used an unfashionable approach in fishmeal ground bait and soft pellet - one that is usually good for about 30lb of silver fish! to take 240lb for second spot from the Golden Peg for the day.
Elsewhere the lake fished well with plenty of fish to be had on pellet fished shallow. I had migrated up from Bath for the first time in a number of weeks and for the first 3hrs had only 4 small Carp for my troubles. At one stage into the second hour I thought I was going to dry net at Rolfs in August.. the ultimate in shame! However, constant feeding down the inside with a pint or 6 of pellet had attracted a few fish in the 4th hour and by the end of the 5th hour I had put together 193lb and was left to wonder what if? As I type up these results I have just got the email from Rolf to say that Bernie Fraser took close to 300lb from he peg today! Doh.
My journey was not a complete waste of time as I bumped into my old buddy Andy Johnstone. Andy has recently been called into the Welsh National Team and deservedly too. His first outing with the team was in the European Championships where he finished in the middle of a hard Section on day 2.
However, drawn on not so Unlucky Peg 13 today, the Welshman returned 152lb for 9th place. I bet he wish he had 152lb in the Euro's? If Andy starts to draw for the Welsh team I bet they'll win the Worlds in the next 2 years!
Not too many of these for 150lb
Lloyd Rush
Tek-Neek Trabucco
Not enough of these BONUS fish to boost my weight, 193lb only good enough for 5th place. About 170lb of that weight came in the last 2 frantic fish filled hours.
I only had 56lb in weighers, the next lowest weighers weight in the shallow half of the lake was Steve Liston with 130lb ish. Colin had 187lb in his winning total of a net busting 255lb!!
Tony Yianni
Hounslow
Too many Tony's in this match.... Mr Taylor was here too.
Tony Yianni has yet to break the 200lb barrier at Rolfslake. Another close call today with a big 150+ weight. It's just a case of getting the right peg on the right day. I think Tony should be given the title as having the most consistently poor draw bag hand at Rolfslake. Not even Trevor Price can avoid the flyers year after year.......
Tony West
Banstead
Too many Tony's in this match...
Not the best of days for the Banstead Matchman. Still he did manage to confuse me at the weight in with too many Tony's around the lake I got all the weight wrong for all the Tony's. Just as well I wrote the Peg numbers and Names on the adding up sheet. Else I would have been up the well known creek without a paddle.
Did
you fish this match and I've missed out (or messed up!) some of the details?
