Pete
Coxhead (Rolfslake) 130-12 (A Section)
Drawn on Peg
18 (next door to his previous days match win) Pete knew if he
could feed enough to draw some fish from Steve Rowe on Peg 17
he would be in with a shout of a section win and put pressure
on Matt McDermott on Peg 15 and Andy Johnstone (who for once had
draw a hard peg in 32, which was in the same section as Pete.)
As with yesterday's bombardment of Pellet, Pete preceded to feed
12 liters of Ton Up Baits 4mm Pellet in close proximity to Peg
17 and stormed away away with a belting section win.
Gary Thorpe
(Ton Up Baits) 73-04. (B Section)
Drawn on Peg
7, Gary took advantage of a peg with some form and converted the
second section win for the Peg in the festival and propelled himself
into the Top 5 and some coin for the Ton Up Bait backed matchman.
Kevin Arathoon
(Isis Oxford) 114-04 (C Section)
You can't
keep a good angler nor peg down, and the combination of both once
again proved to be a match and section winner for Kevin Arathoon
on Peg 24. Kev was very soon into fish from the car park bank
flyer and maintained a good pace into the last 2 hours. His bites
did slow a little in the 4th hours prior to a few fish in the
later stages of the match. Kev employed standard tactics for a
spring match at Rolfs; fishing soft pellet at 14 & 16m over
4mm hard pellet both on the deck or up in the water if the fish
respond to the loose feed.
Elsewhere.
Matt McDermott
(Strike Mosella) 80-10 (C Section)
Matt thought
he had blown the section and consequently the festival, but with
a section 2nd - courtesy of some quality angling in the first
2 hours and a big splash on the next peg in the last hour - Matt
came through to win the festival from Pete Coxhead and Andy Johnstone
respectively. (Andy had taken 3 chub and one good Carp from the
dire peg 32 to salvage 3rd spot and shook of the mantle of not
being able to draw a bad peg! not only that he did get a result
from a bad one)
Lloyd Rush
77-12 (Tek Neek Trabucco) (C Section)
After a slow
to steady start, I had put 4 fish in the net from off the deck.
Then a further 6 by swapping between 4 and 2ft deep. However,
I was struggling to keep pace with those on other noted pegs -
namely: Kevin Arathoon, Pete Coxhead and Matt McDermott. Bites
started to dry up for most as the Carp cruised about the top.
We all seemed to be sharing fish and took turns to snag the odd
wandering fish.
A change
to feeding soft 6 & 8 mm Jelly Pellets resulted in a dramatic
change. The fish settled in front of me and I quickly took 6 fish
in 8 chucks. However, the seventh fish was an estimated 14-16lb
and was giving me a bit of a run around on the Pink Dual Core
Elastic. As I finally seemed to have the fish won, a lunge at
the wallowing fish resulted in the legs of my foot plate slipping
off the front of the wooden platform, I toppled forward and the
next thing I recall was the surreal experience of sitting on the
bottom of the lake with my Box (Keep nets attached) falling on
Top of me in about 7ft of water! Bloody Marvelous.
It was a cool
forward roll and John Lees gave me a full 10/10 but complained
about the resulting tidal wave. I did manage to catch a small
Carp on the top as soon as I could find/recover my tackle. I guess
the fish responded to the splash? but with no bait left I was
a bit stuffed with 3/4 of an hour left and there ended my match.
On the down
side, I lost a top 4, a handful of rigs and winders, various amounts
of terminal tackle and only weighed in 13 fish; not to mention
the loss of the best part of an hours fishing.
I had a fantastic
festival and on behalf of all those that fish would like to thank
Rolf, and the unsung hero's Gary Thorpe, Chris Davis and Kevin
Arathoon for the Results and Draws and admin each day.
If you want
to fish the festival next year I would get your name down quickly.
I'll be there if I've not taken up professional diving instead.
Last, but
no means least, is very special thank you to Mark Sawyer &
Van Den Eynde for once again supporting the Rolfslake Easter Festival.
Maybe next year the draw bag will be a little easier on Mark? |
