Saturday 12th February 2005 - Open Match

Gary Thorpe
(GOT TON UP)
Peg 24 - 141lb

Howling Wind and driving rain couldn't dampen the spirits for the Rolfslake Saturday Open this weekend as GOT TON UP's Gary Thorpe won the Golden Peg pool with a fine win from Peg 24.

Gary started off with the full intension of catching up in the water at 14.5/16m on the rising shelf of the infamous bar at peg 24, a favorite hot spot at any draw. Not everything was going to plan for Gary as he initially struggled for a few fish. However, with constant chopping and changing throughout the match the GOT TON UP backed angler managed to stay in contact with the fish and record a deserved victory with 66lb to spare.

Golden Draw?

Gary has waited all winter to draw Peg 24 and was delighted to coincide this with it's Golden Peg status.

Unfortunately, Gary took the rest of the field apart using the new GOT TON UP pellets to run away with the Golden Peg Piggy Bank!

Dan Jones (Rolfslake) and Mal Talbot (Kamasan) had a belting fight for the bragging rights of second place from Pegs 26 & 27 respectively. Both anglers fished 16m with Sweetcorn and Pellet to take a fish close to double figures. Dan Jones managed 75lb to Mal's 71lb at the final whistle to put a smile on the Rolfslake anglers face. Elsewhere, Stan Robak didn't gamble with going for Carp in the corner peg of the shallow lake, but decided to catch a few silvers - eventually returning 16lb to keep John Harrison in 2nd place for the silver fish coin who took 13lb from Peg 17.

Reminder from Rolf: Easter Festival. Entrance Fees should be paid by Close of Play 01 Mar 05. Reserves may be given any unpaid slots from 01 Mar 05. You've all been warned.

PICTURE REVIEW

Mal Talbot
Kamasan

Another frame weight for Kamasan matchman Mal Talbot. Mal has enjoyed a good winter to date and is sure to test the scales this summer with some great weights from Rolfslake.

Norman Youlden Simons 2000

Gets my vote as man of the match with a fantastic weight from an OK peg in high winds and difficult conditions. Unlike those on the Car Park bank in the twenties, Norman found the NE wind a good match for his 16m pole.

Dan Jones
Rolfslake

Managed to keep his nose in front of Mal Talbot to reserve second spot with a fine 75lb of winter Carp.

Keith Ashby
Cokeheads

Too much wind for Keith today?
