Saturday 12th March 2005 - Open Match

Gary Thorpe
(GOT Baits)
Peg 24 - 150lb 8oz

"With the Easter Festival only a few weeks away the lake has started to improve - slowly "

A whole week without a snow flake in sight resulted in drastically better weights in the Rolfslake Saturday Open match. Gary Thorpe (GOT Baits) stormed to 150lb 8oz from Peg 24 as both Gary and Peg 24 continue their respectively good form. Fishing a standard 15m line for Peg 24, Gary fished on the bottom of the bar to draw most of his fish on Maggot.

Gary still can't draw well?

I guess he'll not complain about poor draws for a while..

Maybe the biggest surprise was for Dave Wightman, drawn on unfancied Peg 10, the Simons 2000 angler took 104lb 8oz for runners up spot. Dave also took most of his fish on Sweetcorn over Pellet. With the wind pushing on to his bank, Dave fished just down the inside shelf back towards Peg 11.

Took advantage of a favorable wind with great affect. Fishing tight to the inside shelf, Dave enjoyed a good day's match fishing.

A 3lb Perch for Robin today. One of many 3lb + Perch in the lake to show this winter.
