Saturday 13th Aug 2005 - Open Match
Tony Wynnick "Rain, Rain go Away! good soaking for those at the special today." Someone who had a better day was Tony Wynnick, drawn on Peg 19, the Frames Tackle matchman took plenty of near double fish in a match winning 232lb. As with most anglers today, Tony took fish on both pellet and paste on top of the bar and down the edge on the revamped peg 19. Rolf had the aerators running in his peg in the morning and the fish settled in the corner. GOT Baits angler Steve Butler looked the likely winner on Peg 33 (A peg reserved for the specials) after taking a number of fish in first hour, but a number of lost fish and a few quieter spells cost him the match win. All the same, a decent weight on a hard day of persistent rain and sloppy paste.
On a funny note it was nice to watch Rolf smash Dave Wightman's top set after he'd assisted Dave in freeing a stuck top 3! Nice one Rolf. This moment was eclipsed with the Wedgbrow's Frank and Colin turning up with GOT sweatshirts and ties. Rolf had refused their entrance last week because of over-booking, the ties were an effort to secure next weeks entrance! good effort guys. For anyone that has not witnessed a Rolfslake weigh-in should do - if only to be there at the weigh-in. I challenge anyone to try and get away with doing nothing (Gary seems to have this off to a tee) Rolf 'The General' controls the anglers like a director at the last night of the proms. Nice one Chap! Every fish is weighed, dipped in a saline solution, returned all the better for being caught, and all in a time that would out pace most winter scales on the local 'cut'. |
