Sunday 19th June - Open Match
Gary Thorpe "Rolfslake 'On Fire' as Temperatures Top the 30 Deg and Gary Tops 300lb "
Gary seemed to take fish from all over the peg, but the bulk of his catch came a hard pellet presented off the bottom in 4ft of water fished long back towards the grasses at 14m. He also took a number of fish from the 6m 'Gully' that the peg is so renowned for when the paste really gets going. With Gary recording such a huge weight, you would have been forgiven to think that this was a boring one horse race. This was definitely not the case. Pete Archer sat next door on Peg 6 and gave Gary a great run for his money. Only the scales would separate the anglers as both conceded the victory at the all out to the other angler. Pete's total fell just 30lb short of Gary's - that just 3 good fish. Nice to see Trev Price back at the lake on a regular basis and already he has started recording some decent weights and today was no exception with a 3rd placed 227lb. Matt Nudd made it a GOT Baits 1st, 3rd and 4th with 175lb 8oz from Peg 4, and it must be said that the GOT Baits lads had some good pegs this weekend. Drawing them is one thing, winning from them is another! Paste starting to pick up more and more fish, but feeding regularly seems to be the key over hard pellet. Had the weekend been more overcast I'm sure we would be looking at a new UK Match Record. Still there's always next weekend. |
