Rolfs' Diary 2006
Wednesday Open
Wednesday was witness to the return of the 300lb + weights in the Opens at Rolfslake, Oxfordshire. Phil Powell combined paste and luncheon meat hook baits at peg 32 for a narrow victory in the midweek Carp bonanza.
Phil Powell (Rolfslake) John Bennett had a return to form from Peg 30 with an arm wrenching 307lb 4oz whilst fishing at just 2m next to the bush on his right - a favorite swim for the Rolfslake regular. Barry Morgan (Littlemore) missed the keepnet with a fish between 6-8lb as the fish jumped from his landing net and ultimately cost the matchmen a 300lb plus weight! Barry did however record 295lb 8oz for 3rd place. Barry worked hard for his return by fishing at 15m and spraying pellet to keep the carp shallow - as did the rest of the chasing pack. Elsewhere, paste loosing it's effectiveness as the water cools into autumn. Expect the odd big weight, however, I'm sure that spending too long biteless on the summer favourite will be the haunting of more than one angler this October. |
