Rolfs' Diary 2007
Summer League Match 3 of 6 The Fishing took a back seat in the 3rd round of the Summer League to celebrate the years of hard work and constant devotion Rolf has put it to the lake. With the devastating news that the Rolfs illness had taken a sinister turn the regular Angers wanted to show how special the lake has become to so many anglers that fish the lake; and even a few that have yet to enjoy the great sport. It seems that the fish knew the 'Old boy' was there, responding with a bite filled 5 hours sport that ensured a whole string of net busting returns. Rolf has sent me all the pictures he could get off the camera; but left the phone call with a mutter - 'bloody things going in the bin if I can't get the rest off!'
A VERY Special Heart Felt Thank You to Rolf. I've yet to get the pictures, so I guess the Digi Camera's got the bullet! If anyone else has any pictures of the day please send them in. Rolf has asked me I use as many as I can. He was so pleased with the cake and the efforts of all the anglers - he referred to those there as the very best match anglers in many ways. A special Thanks again to John Bennett and an extended thanks to John Walker who raced back from Asia to make the BBQ!
Colin, John, Eddy, Mrs Eddy, Mrs Bennett, John and Ian McCulloch Onwards to round three. Report: From Eddy Taylor Green. Off I went to see the guys fish the third round of the summer league, but with no dramas experienced as we did in the second round. This match turned out to be a cracker for all the anglers that fished the big lake, as there were 5 100lb+ weights ,5 200lb+ weights and 1 near 400lb weight. Fishing on the new lucky peg 15 John Walker {who had arrived from China that same morning } fished a brilliant match, catching 394-10. The world record was under real threat today as John caught most of his fish close to the bank, catching fish to 20lb on shallow and bottom rigs; John was fishing and feeding pellets. When the world record was recorded in 2005 all fish were allowed to be put into the nets saving valuable time but as this match was not a ''special' John had to weigh over 16 fish costing him about 35 minutes and maybe a place in history?
In second place was John Bennett who was fishing peg 25 ,who recorded 273-06 fishing no more than his top 4 ,fishing his favorite paste hook bait feeding pellet. The amazing thing watching John was that i could not see the bites that he was striking at, and every time he had a fish on. In third place was one of the most consistent anglers on the lake at the moment, Phil Powell who fished both the feeder and the pole shallow using both meat and pellets for 262-00. Fishermans A won the team match with 22 points, but Rolfs Team Gold lead with 60 points.
After the match all the anglers stayed behind to have a barbeque with Rolf and share a few beers [thanks to all the guys who helped put up the marquee, and Pauline Bennett who prepared the food and made the cake which was presented to Rolf]Again thanks to all the anglers who made me very welcome in watching their match.
