Rolfs' Diary 2007
Spring League Match 2 of 6 Easter Sunday continued with the good weather that has been with us for almost a week now. Accordingly, the fish were milling around in the shallow lake with no intention of feeding and continually teased the on looking anglers with their visual presence.
John Hague - Steve Wilson (Assassins) ran to peg 24 following a run of good form and match wins; yesterday being no exception - with 200lb+ weight on the waggler for Jon Arthur (Match Fishing Magazine) in the Total-Fishing Easter Bonanza. Steve fished a combination of waggler, feeder and pole with luncheon meat hookbait's over pellet. Switching between methods kept fish coming and Steve eventually cruised to to a winning weight of 212lb 12oz - and back to back double tons for Peg 24. You've got to love drawing peg 24 in spring! Elsewhere, Ernie Malyon (SPRO's) had a good day for 2nd on peg 14 with an all feeder return in excess of 150lb+. Ernie fished a pellet and luncheon meat combination, topping up with plenty of pellet was once again key to keeping fish coming and the eventual big weight. The lake continues to improve into spring, but some pegs are still very hard going. Light feed and and a slowly, slowly approach isn't always the way to go on these pegs - although once you start attacking the peg you can't take the feed out! One thing is for sure - scratching around for 10-20lb will not win you any matches - but in a team event, attacking you peg and catching 5lb is not going to win any creditability with your team mates - dammed if you do and dammed if you don't - Stroll on the summer?
