Fishing 2pm til 7pm - Reporter ETG

As the regular crowd assembled on the lake for another midweek match ,it was noticeable that Rolf was missing again as he continues with his treatments ,but i was assured he was still in good spirits by John.

Today all the anglers wanted to be on the big lake ,after the recent big weights in both the summer league and the midweek opens. As each angler drew his peg i was hoping that i would also have a chance to fish this bank ,and to my surprise peg 24 was left in the bag .Now for the regulars who fish the lake peg 24 is a great 16m fishing shallow peg, as Pete Archer demonstrated last week. The only thing was this was not my favourite method and a challenging 5 hours awaited.

In first place was the globe-trotting John Walker fishing peg 28 {which had shown good form the last four weeks}, who fished his usual shallow long pole fishing pellet feeding pellet. The thing that helped John was that he was able to bring the fish to within 6 meters towards the end of the match to speed up his catch rate for a great weight of 317-08,which included over 110-00 of fish over 8lb, that have to be weighed separately.

In second place and a new name to break into the top 3 was Eddy Taylor-Green who decided to fish against all the good advice given and fish paste at 5 meters. Using a John Walker handmade float Eddy had bites for most of the 5 hours using nothing more than watered down pellets as paste feeding heavy with Rolfs feed pellets for a weight of 210-08 and a new personal best.

The disappointment for me at the end ,was that had i just fished steady for 5 hours, instead of having thoughts of 300lb and speeding up and losing more fish ,was that i could of got close to 300lb and not lost my lucky float.  In third place ,which should of been second {if a mix-up at weighing-in had not resulted in one bag of fish being put back straight into the lake and not via the scales} was Colin Wedgebrow who fished peg 30 fishing his trade mark 4-5 meters fishing banded pellets feeding very heavy with pellets just past the first shelf for a weight of 197-04.

The next challenge for the regulars is to see who can break the 400-00lb barrier in the next couple of weeks as the fishing hits top form , so keep watching the results to see who it will be.

Book Early for Wednesday Opens to avoid disappointment.
