Firstly may i wish all our anglers and their families a happy new year and hope that 2008 bring a peaceful and enjoyable time for all.
As the anglers gathered for the first match of the year they were greeted with a cold and frosty day, so it was never going to be easy. The matches at the moment are to be divided into carp and silver matches ,giving the anglers a choice of what to fish for as the carp are at times slow to feed in certain parts of the lake.
Rolf i am told is still in good spirits as I have not seen him since Christmas, and he still gets down to the lake to see the guys. Lloyd recently spoke to him and reports then he was even showing some signs of improvement over recent weeks; he also confirmed Rolf was indeed in very good spirits.

Colin Wedgebrow - Looking forward to the 2008 Summer.
Today in first place in the carp match, was Maggots Ends sponsored angler Derek Hammond ,who was fishing peg 24 {a good cold water peg }. Derek fished waggler out in the middle using bread hook bait to tempt his carp for a very good weight of 95-00 and a very deserved win. In second place was John Bennett who fished next to Derek on peg 25 ,but had to work very hard to try and draw a few fish away from 24 for his weight of 45-00. Completing the carp frame was Jason Gooch who was fishing peg 27 and again found catching carp in any numbers difficult for his weight of 41-00.
The winner of the silver match was Jason Gooch so in switching from carp to silvers Jason also put together a weight of 3-08 to win the silver pools money.
John has told me there is still a place for a team in the series of 6 matches starting the 13th of January , {although this may have already gone}.
The Easter festival is due to take place on Saturday the 22nd, Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th of March {draw time to be confirmed}.
There is a practice day on the 21st of March , and the cost of the festival is £60 which has to be paid by the 14th of March ,so if you fancy a great 3 days fishing contact John Bennett on 077746 18688 but please hurry as places for the festival go very quickly
