Match Reporter Eddy Taylor Green

Today saw Bernie Fraser another of Rolfslake's multiple winning anglers ,return to the lake after a gap of two years and was warmly welcomed by the regulars before the draw.

It also saw one of the best matches on the lake for some time ,with the top 7 all in with a chance of winning going into the last hour. The weather continued to be sunny and warm and this triggered the fish into feeding confidently throughout the match. I thought my prediction of that final monster weight of the year was going to be today , but with the quality of anglers down on the lake today, no one was going to get the chance of having the fish all to themselves.

I [Eddy] for a change decided to have a day off fishing and watch the guys, as it is always a pleasure to see good anglers catch lots of fish, and sometimes that is the only way you can learn new methods.

It was a very close match for first place today ,with two of Rolfslake's top anglers battling it out at each end of the lake for the top prize. The eventual winner today was Fishermans Friend sponsored angler Colin Wedgebrow ,who was fishing newly rebuilt peg 16 just off the silt bank. Colin today fished three lines ,a waggler in the middle of the lake fishing two feet deep, a pole line at 8 mtr's on the deck and a margin line in the bush to his left at a range of 4 mtr's. After catching a couple of fish on the waggler line early on, fishing pellet and feeding pellet the fish backed off and did not want to know, so Colin alternated between the two pole lines but was was frustrated with a lot of foul hooked fish as the peg was fizzing with fish at all depths. Colin eventually settled on fishing the bush to his left and from that point  onwards started catching fish to double figures by using a combination of Yorkshire Baits Company's Kopy Kat chunks and hard 8mm banded pellet. At the end of 5 hours Colin had put together a weight of 267-00 and only one fish ahead of John Bennett for a deserved win.

The funny part of Collins day was  seeing Mike Stimson's top 4 of his Diawa Spectron pole go by  and he decided to go after it with Mike in Rolfs boat much to the amusement of the other anglers.

John Bennett at the Jungle [Peg 4]

In second place was John Bennett who was fishing in-form peg 4, and who fished a short 4 mtr line to the bush to his right using a mixture of baits  { paste, corn and Yorkshire Bait Company's garlic pellet in the 9mm size} to put together his weight of 263-00 and only one small carp off a match win.

The key to catching a big weight off peg four is to place your rig tight to the bushes ,and keep your rig moving whilst constantly feeding to draw the fish in from the bay next to peg three. This peg  over the last 3 weeks has had 4 wins and a second place, so there are plenty of fish in this area so take plenty of bait.

In third place was Bernie Fraser who was fishing peg 26 on the car park bank ,and who had an enjoyable day fishing short range 5-6 mtr's to the bush to his left ,fishing pellet hookbait's feeding pellet for his weight of 237-00.

With the green algae now gone, the fish seem happier all around the lake with pegs 4,6,7,8 and 16 all showing good form. John Bennett has now got stocks of the Yorkshire Bait Company's Kopy Kat chunks ,Prawn Delight and Garlic pellets in the 9mm size ,which have been responsible for all the big weights down on the lake during the last 4 weeks. He has also in stock their Kopy Kat paste mix ,which is having good results at this time of year .The paste is very fine ,very easy to mix and the fish love it , so see John if you would like to see what the Yorkshire Bait Company's products look like as they have been selling very fast in their first week on sale down the lake.

A few fish in the Peg 6, 7, 8 area recently. John and Colin play fish as John Walker in the rear waits for a Fish.

Looks like Colin could do with a hair cut to me? Keeping his tan topped up whilst playing a big fish on his way to the match win.
