Lake record is broken at last. On one of the few Saturday matches this year ,the 15 odd anglers were anticipating a good days fishing as the weather was mild for this time of year. With the lake fishing well as i have reported for the last 6 weeks, the chances of breaking the 2 year old lake record of 490-08 caught by G O T angler Gary Thorpe was still on.
I have been saying that if the record goes it would either be pegs 15 or 32 but today peg 8 would be the peg that would change the fishing life for one special angler.
Today that special angler was to be Rolfslake sponsored and friend John Walker.
John Walkers form this season has been nothing short of awesome ,as with his personal best weight having been set at 394-00 only 5 weeks ago on a summer league match, it was going to take an incredible effort to top that.
With peg 8 Johns choosen place for the day, he set about covering a couple of options for his attack today. It was going to be 16 mtrs across to the far bank grasses and the margins towards peg 7.
John knew it was going to be a special day when his fist put in on the long line resulted in a carp of 19lb which formed part of an incredible on the board weight of 302-00,{all fish over 8lb at Rolfs have to be weighed individualy and put back} which would win most matches around the country.
Not being content with those big fish John had feed a margin swim to his right and once he saw fish feeding there ,he set about catching the the rest of his fish which would fill three nets . John was using the new Yorkshire Bait Companys Galic hooker pellet and the Copy Kat 9-11mm hooker pellet feeding the Rolfs lake feed pellet.
At the weigh-in the anglers gathered around peg 8 knowing a special weight was on the cards and after many weighs the end result was a fabulous weight of 530-00 and a very deserved win and new lake record well done John.
