Rolfs' Diary 2007
Sunday Open With 8 weights over 80lb and a winning weight over 300lb, there can little doubt that Rolfslake is coming into summer form. The settled weather we've been enjoying this April has ensured the fish have come on quickly this year and it looks like we're set for another bumper year down lake. Maybe even a new World Record will be on the cards? who knows?
John Hague on the feeder Jon took his fish in the right hand side margins - back towards peg 28. Fishing down the shelf at about 2ft from the bank, Jon found plenty of fish willing to take his luncheon meat and pellet hook baits. Again, the key to keeping the fish from wondering off into adjacent pegs was the heavy feed rate employed by the midlands based matchman. Pete Archer on Peg 4, had a issue with foul hooked fish - even though he was fishing well up in the water. Rolf estimated that the Vespe angler lost close to 40 fish in a return that fell just short of 200lb for second place. Elsewhere, Luncheon Meat continues to be the bait of the moment with sweetcorn and hard pellet a good alternative. Paste still yet to feature, but expected to produce some huge bags in the coming weeks as top weights have started to come to margin and heavy feed approaches. Note from Rolf: Bread will get it's seasonal summer ban starting with this weeks Wednesday Open - e.g. Rolf told me the end of the month, but as that's in the morning & there's no match tonight or tomorrow - that's it for the bread, back to being Sandwich and Toast until the Winter! |
