With the lake fishing really well at the moment the attendances at this time continue to exceed 15 on these midweek matches, and with the pleasure anglers also on the lake the fish tend to spread themselves about. With the weather sunny but with a breeze blowing off the car park bank the anglers were hoping for a draw on these pegs as fish could be seen cruising on the surface.
In first place today was local angler Ian McCulloch who drew one of the car park bank pegs 28 and who decided to fish long and up in the water. Ian fished at depths between 1 and 3 feet and used pellet as hook bait, and as is usual caught big fish up to 15-00 in his final weight of 204-12 and a deserved win {well done Ian}.
In second place and in the frame again was lake owner John Bennett, who was drawn on the motorway bank peg 16 and fished his usual short range 6 mtrs on the deck using his favourite corn hook bait, and also caught his share of doubles {actually 100-00 of doubles} in his final weight of 187-12. In third place was Steve Wilson on peg 24 and who also fished on the deck at a range of 13 mtrs using pellet hook bait feeding cautiously, to catch another big framing weight of 171-08.
The low oxygen problems have now been resolved due to some very hard work by John and Pauline and the fishing just gets better and better. There cannot be too many fisheries in the country that have consistent winning weights in the 300 and 200lb bracket and also have weights of 150-00 not even framing.
John also informs me that there is a 6 match winter league starting on the 9th of November, so if you have some time and want to experience some great fishing in great company phone John Bennett for details but get in quick as places are limited.
