As the anglers gathered at the draw, they were greeted by lovely sunshine and fish topping everywhere. Two of the regulars Phil Powell and Mick Lane phoned John to say that they were running late and it was decided that they would have the last two numbers in the bag, {would you believe it flyer pegs 16 and 18} and the others anglers were not amused as they went off to their pegs.
In a very close match the top three anglers were separated by only three carp ,in what turned out to be a frustrating day for the others.
In first place today was Mick Lane who was fishing end peg 18 on the motorway bank, and after turning 45 minutes late ,was more than happy to see plenty of fish topping at his end of the lake. Mick today decided to fish at a distance of 16 mtrs towards the boat in the corner and at depths between 2 and 5 feet, using pellet and meat hookbaits and feeding very heavy 4 to 5 bags of feed pellet ,catching fish to 12-00 in his weight of 157-12 and a deserved win.
In second place was Micks partner in crime Phil Powell {who was still flying after his massive weight of 403-00 only caught two weeks ago }who was fishing on peg 16, and who started on the feeder but after a slow hour and a half swapped to the shallow rig and did not look back.
Phil again used meat and pellet hookbaits feeding heavy but fell one fish short of a win with his weight of 138-04. Completing the frame was Dave Wightman on peg 8 and who fished three lines, the bush to his left ,a short 4mtr line straight out, and the far bank against the grasses at 16mtrs. Dave caught the majority of his mixed bag {perch ,chub to 5lb and carp} on the long line using corn and meat hookbaits spraying across for his weight of 138-04.
The lake is in perfect condition so expect big weights to continue.
The main baits working at the moment are meat, corn and pellet, but if the weather warms up paste will start to make an impact.
Please phone John to book your place on these opens.
