Rolfs' Diary 2008

Wednesday Open Match
.
30 April 2008

Match Reporter ETG.

As the lake continues to improve by the week with the first 300lb recorded last week ,the anglers are coming back in numbers to these popular Wednesday opens. With the sun shinning it was great to see Rolfslake open the swimming pool, which i am sure many anglers will be visiting this year.

In first place today was one of the Wednesday cartel members Mick Lane who was fishing current form peg, peg 14 on the motorway bank. Mick fished the pole shallow at depths between 1 and 4 feet at a range of 16 metres, fishing meat and pellet hook baits and spraying regular to keep the fish coming. Mick caught big fish to 14-04 as it got later in the day for his his final weight of 296-04 and a very deserved win in very hot weather.

In second place was Gold Valley regular Terry Winstone who was attempting to be the first angler to win an open on the waggler. Terry started slowly as he tried to get the fish feeding confidently, spraying 6mm pellets for the louder noise, and once he got into his rhythm he never looked back. The method that was used was a homemade short loaded waggler fished at a depth of 18 inches using pellet hook bait which has served Terry well, although the fish were of a smaller stamp around 4lb he still managed to catch 42 carp for his weight of 243-08.

Match Reporter - ETG had a few today

Completing the frame was Phil Powell, who managed to give the rest of the anglers one of the funniest moments I have seen at the lake.
Phil who was catching well on peg 32 was returning one of his double figure fish ,when he slipped on a stone and rather than fall straight into the lake, tried to save himself from getting wet and had caught one foot on the platform and managed to grab a hand full of grass from the bank whilst still holding on to his landing net. This resulted in his entire body being under water except for his head ,hand and foot whilst calling out for help. After about two minutes help arrived once John B could stop himself from laughing, and Phil was saved {Baywatch style}. Phil eventually got back to fishing, catching down the edge and towards the gap fishing pellet and meat and feeding heavy for his weight of 209-08.

Please phone John to book your place on these opens.
