Paste anglers make a point.

With the attendances now over 20 on the Wednesday matches it won’t be long before one lucky angler puts together one of Rolfslake’s massive weights.

Only last week, Jon Walker Rolfslake’s lake record holder with 530-00, put his marker down for this year with a 357-00 match weight win, so now these matches are drawing all the top baggers in the area hoping to be the first one to top the 400lb mark.

Today’s winner was Vespe sponsored angler Chris Telling who was lucky to draw small lake peg 40 {as the wind had been blowing into this part of the lake for the last two days} and made no mistake in catching today’s winning weight of 241-04. Chris started the match fishing at a range of 13 metres fishing on the deck and using paste feeding quite heavy, but as the match went on Chris drew the fish closer {5 metres } and this helped him catch fish faster and bigger {to 15lb} to stay one fish ahead of the chasing pack.

In second place was Jeff Edwards who was in the same area as Chris , but fished the bomb at just fish short of half way across and using banded pellet as hook bait. Jeff loose fed pellet over the bomb line to draw his fish in and again caught big fish to 14-08, but a change to paste fished a range of 5 metres brought him even more fish and he ended up 1 fish short of a match win with 230-03

Completing the frame was returning angler Mark Chard who was drawn on peg 8 between the small and large lake. Mark started across and caught carp but a change to a shorter line 4 metres ensured that it was easier fishing and that his catch rate improved. Mark used banded pellet loose feeding heavy to catch his fish and ended two fish short of his double ton with 187-12.

John has asked me to inform the pleasure anglers that the lake will be closed to pleasure fishing on Wednesday the 1st of July as there will be a feature on match fishing down on the lake so sorry for this. Any angler wishing to fish this match will need to book their place in advance as there will be a maximum of only 20 places available {so phone John Bennett for availability}.

The paste is now starting to come into play at short range between 4 and 7 metres so look out for some big weights as the fish at Rolfs just love paste.
