Easter Festival Day 2 [Easter Sunday]

What a great 3 day festival!

With the return of the anglers for day 3 of the Easter festival , expectations were high for another great days fishing that Rolfslake is famous for.

With anyone of the top 8 in with a chance of winning the festival the order of the day was to concentrate on catching a few fish in the first hour and keep things simple and not chase the fish. After saying how the dreaded A section was the place to avoid, today it was going to prove to me and the 21 other anglers how wrong you can be. After the 2 previous days of hard graft in this section, today it was going to fish brilliant with 6 weights over a ton and it requiring a 200lb to win from a peg with previous poor form {well done Derek}.

The lake overall fished fantastic with over 2670 lb of fish caught at an average of 127lb per angler {what lake in the country fishes like this }. The winner of this year’s festival was Mark Bedford who recorded a fantastic perfect 21 point score with the lowest weight of the top 5 at 466-08 lb to show it is just as important to be consistent than just record big weights, congratulations Mark .

Last year’s champion Matt Smith put up a great challenge with 1 section win and 2 second places for a total of 19 points and a combined weight of 615-06 {not bad for three days fishing}. I would like thank John and Pauline Bennett on behalf of the competing anglers for preparing Rolfslake to such a high standard that made it an enjoyable place to fish and visit. The thing to remember is that Rolfslake has still not reached its peak yet and the first 400lb weight will be along in the next 6 weeks probably on a Wednesday open as it fishes later into the day. But if not why not try one of the Saturday opens whilst they are still available before the club matches take over.
